The Woden Weston Rams is a junior rugby league club based in the Woden Valley/Weston Creek region of Canberra.
The Club enters its 46th year in 2013, which is already shaping to be another successful one for the Rams Juniors. This year the club has 20 teams participating across all age groups – from Lambs to Under 16’s – total of over 300 registered players. This is one more registered team than the 2012 club record and another milestone for the Rams.
In 2012 the club had its most successful year winning four premierships. The Under 10s (Div 1), Under 11s (Div 1), Under 12s (Div 2) and Under 16’s (Div 1) age groups were all crowned champions, while the U15s (Div 1) missed out on the title by just one point! In addition, the Lambs program has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 2008, proven by the Club having multiple teams in each mini age group.
Like all community groups the Rams relies heavily on volunteers to make the club a success. Without the hard work put in by the committee members, coaches and officials who volunteer their time the club would not be the great place it is to play footy.
Each year the Rams Juniors Club hosts the Lincoln Withers Shield and Luke Priddis Cup annual pre-season tournaments for the U12 and U13 age groups respectively. Lincoln and Luke were former Rams players who went on to enjoy successful professional careers in the NRL. We are very proud to claim them as our own and this annual event is an important way of recognizing their origins and service to the Rams.
2013 also saw the Rams host the Cook Islands Cup and Lennock Motors Shield for the U16 and U15 age groups respectively. The Cook Islands Cup was first held in 2012 as part of an initiative to foster rugby league in the Cook Islands. In 2012 our U16 Division 1 premiership winning team capped a highly successful year with a playing tour of this Pacific Island paradise. The 2013 tournament format expanded to include an U15 tournament which was made possible through the generous support of Lennock Motors.
Together with our Senior club, from Lambs to Old Boys, when you play rugby league with the Rams you truly have a club for life.
