Heaton Moor Rugby Club in Stockport has won a national award for its work with young players.
Club representatives were at Twickenham to pick up the award for the Youth/Mini Section of the Year at the National Rugby Awards.
A successful season saw the under-13s reach the Lancashire County Cup final and the under-11s go all season unbeaten.
Judges – including former England internationals Jeremy Guscott and Jeff Probyn – were also impressed with the work of the club’s development officer, Paul Bailey, at schools, while playing numbers have doubled to over 300 in the three seasons.
Phil Yeomans, chairman of the mini and junior section at Heaton Moor, said: “In the year the Rugby World Cup comes to England this is great recognition for the efforts of all our players, coaches and volunteers.
“It shows what a fantastic club Heaton Moor is for anyone to play rugby at, whether new or experienced, and we hope this award encourages even more children between the ages of five and 16 to come and play for the club.”
